Learn To Tattoo

Get all the facts and learn what tattoo schools offer and what they don’t. Some are registered and are long standing professionals while others are back room fly by the seat of the pants rip-offs, so do your homework.

Learn To Tattoo

Ctattoo apprenticeshipsan you really learn how to tattoo at tattoo school or is it all just a money grabbing scam intended to fleece the gullible suckers out there out of thousands of dollars. The debate is raging on in forums and blogs all over the Internet.

The two schools of thought are 1) you must find someone to teach you under the apprenticeship program and then spend years learning the craft in order to perfect your skills.

This requires you to work in the artists shop doing odd jobs including cleaning toilets, floors and equipment as well as running errands. In exchange you will learn how to draw flash, sterilize equipment and handle a tattoo machine (not called a gun).

After 2 to 3 years you will (if you have the talent) be able to work as a tattoo artist. Of course some are faster and take to the trade right away but it’s not about the skill. In the apprenticeship program artists know that when you go out there you are going to tell people who trained you and that reflects on their reputation so: they want you to do and be your best BEFORE you call them your teacher.

That’s understandable. Next We Have the tattoo school (i’m only going to talk about the accredited schools. I can not vouch for a schooling that takes place in unlicensed shop. I have only been to one tattoo school. I did not train there, it was my job to film the class, take photos of the tattoos and interview the students and then graduates.

I Went To Tattoo School And
Interviewed The Students

I went to the same school 6 times and spent a total of 10+ weeks at the school. Each class lasts 2 weeks and took the beginner (mostly beginners there) from zero knowledge to someone able to put on a proper (good looking tattoo).

Those that were excellent artists picked it up a little faster then rank amateurs but in the course of observing and documenting (on video) over 100 students, I can honestly say not one was unable to put on a good tattoo.

Some were doing kick-ass work and the majority left with the skills to go out and do a good tattoo. Some of the interviews I did will be posted under the tattoo school category on this blog check them out. I think you’ll find his interview interesting. Here’s a video is of Race Oudomont (hope I got his name right ) Race went to tattoo school and then went home did some tattooing for 6 months and was offered the position of house tattoo artist at the worlds only tattoo school’s tattoo shop.

It just goes to show you, if you have the artistic talent you can do this. In this video clip you’ll see him doing a pretty cool tattoo and it could easily  be shown in a

National Tattoo Magazine

as a matter of fact I would not be surprised to see Race in a national magazine any time soon So if you want a tattoo by an undiscovered master he’s currently working in Shreveport, LA at Tattoo Paradise. 318-865-3191 ask for Harvey or Race

The long and the short of it is this. In an apprenticeship program you will learn how to tattoo over a period of time they will train you in the art of tattooing and a good teacher will pass on their skills to you and you will become a professional artists. Realize that the apprenticeship will be long, may cost money and you will NOT be paid to train so you’ll need a job while you train. The

Tattoo School Is a Fast-Track Apprenticeship

program, taught by instructors with decades of experience. Instead of training over a long period of time you are on the fast track. You learn, then you practice, then you learn more.

By the time day 3 or 4 has come around you fully understand how to handle the tattoo machine, proper safety, and you will be tattooing on real people. Then every day after that you train more and tattoo more. There is a practice session on melons and then as soon as you’re ready …you’re on skin.

It’s really surprising how fast you pick it up when You have a good teacher. It’s not uncommon for students to get 20 to 30 tattoos under their belt at the two-week tattoo school.
